The Mukluks

I realized after publishing the last post, I forgot to post the mukluks! Casey, one of my seniors I have been teaching for the past six years, gave me the best birthday present ever! She sewed this pair of mukluks for the baby. The white fur is rabbit and the top fur is fox. It was her first pair to make ever - and she gave them to the baby! Thanks, Casey!! :)

29 weeks and Mukluks

I learned a few things about vacationing in Hawaii while pregnant - this baby loves the water (every time I went snorkeling, he started kicking), your skin really is super sensitive to the sun while pregnant (hello sunblock #30 - but the vitamin D was totally worth it!), and flying six hours on a plane in the third trimester really sucks! Thankfully I managed to convince people they wanted me to have the aisle seat since I had to go to the bathroom every half hour (at least).

Upon my return from Hawaii, I had a doctor appointment. The sonogram went very well - check out the new pics! Josh thinks the baby has my nose. Everything looks great with baby, thank goodness.

I also have had to totally change my diet because I have gestational diabetes. Hello peanut butter and celery, good bye ice cream. I am counting carbs and eating six small meals. The worst part is checking my blood sugar four times a day. I am so glad that I only have to do this for ten more weeks!

New Pic of the Baby

We had our first doctor appointment in a month yesterday. What a whirlwind! First I had to drink this horrible fruit juice for the glucose test. I had to do it in two minutes - felt like college days chugging away! :)

Then I had a sonogram to check out baby's face and the umbilical cord. He was extremely active throughout the sonogram which was a little frustrating for the guy doing the sonogram. I imagine it was the pure sugar I had just downed! Everything looks great with the baby. Scary though - his head is in the 95% percentile. We have a big headed baby!

Last I had blood drawn for the glucose test, weighed, measured, all that good stuff. I have gained 22 pounds so far (no thanks to delicious chicken fried steak and Whataburger in Texas last week). I didn't get in too much trouble with the doctor though.
